Hello, my name is Iris Checketts.
I have always been a supporter of amateur dramatics and prior to moving to Ombersley saw many ODS performances in the Memorial Hall, the most memorable being My Fair Lady and Old King Cole. I joined the Society about three years ago and at first helped with front of house. My first appearance on stage was as a lady with a basket of apples in a one act play performed by the Junior Section of ODS and I was soon fairly easily persuaded to take the small speaking role of Lisa Stahlbaum (Mother) in the Pantomime ‘Nutcracker’. In April 2001 I was fortunate to play Claire Murphy in Love Begins At Fifty, a part which I thoroughly enjoyed, and was Old Ma Treacle in the western spoof Bad Day at Black Frog Creek. I have helped with refreshments and costumes and enjoyed providing the props (jointly with Chris Marsh) for Will You Still Love Me In The Morning, a quick moving farce with glasses of wine and bowls of soup coming and going at an alarming rate. We are proud to say that the soup (and croutons) were real, although we have to confess to substituting the wine and whisky for convincing non-alcoholic substitutes. I was the prompt in Communicating Doors by Alan Ayckbourn, which required a great deal of concentration.

For escapism there is nothing to compare and if I can do it, then anyone can.

I really do enjoy every aspect of amateur dramatics, particularly rehearsals - or is it the visit to the Fruiterers Arms afterwards?!

Bye for now luvvies.
